Sizing issues with a tweed flat cap - help!

Hi guys
Mrs Buller has just returned from a trip to the UK where she attended some garden shows and Wimbledon (while I attended to baby-sitting duties back here at the tip of Africa). Anyway, upon her return my lovely wife presented me with a stunning Harris tweed flat cap which she had purchased in London for me. Trouble is it's about an inch too big! Now, will the tweed shrink over time? Could I shrink the hat without damaging the tweed? Or should I have a tailor alter the size? As always, I await your valuable input!

Sir,
A hot boil wash may help to shrink the cap, but may ruin its texture. Personally I think inserting a couple of extra darts at the back of cap each side of the rear rim hem seam would be the answer.

Let a tailor do the job rather than boiling the life out of it. :Hat:

Catch bigger fish, then boast about it on here. Your head will soon swell to fit the cap.

Well guys I had it expertly adjusted by a tailor. Perfect job and fit. Freezing weather is rolling in here at Africa's
Tip. Perfect conditions for a Tweed cap! Cheers Buller
