Not so long ago I bought a Throop blank which awaits a pukka set of rings. A couple of weeks ago I took a punt to the tune of a fiver on an unlabelled doer-upper at my local boot sale and ....
This is the recent acquisition stripped (PVC tape is to protect the crenulations of the ferrules). 11' in three joints fashioned of split cane throughout.
And here it is alongside the blank of my labelled Priory rod. Colour, lengths and girths are nigh on identical.
The ironmongery is identical and the sections are completely interchangeable.
Differences: The top of the handle has no winding check, the butt section guide is placed at a different interval, and the tip is shaped to accommodate a tube type tip guide. The original whipping appears to have been a green/red twist.
So, is it a Throop with custom handle and whipping or a rod made by Priory to be sold under another label?
