I have always been fascinated by names I thank the member for reminding me of the name of my local tackle shop I frequented as a boy 'Vic's Tackle'. I have nothing against Vic I'm sure he was a nice chap, but 'Vic's'! I was hoping it might have been 'Ashpoles' as another member suggested, what a great name. I used to have a work colleague called Catchpole if only he had a tackle shop that would be perfection. Another fine traditional name 'Sowerbutts' which used to be in East London. I'm sure there are many more.

Keswalls is still going, albeit in Romford nowadays, rather than it's original Woodford, and I've just heard that Bevan Angling in Chelmsford is back after it's original owner passed on.... Sadly both of these shops now specialise in Carp gear, Sadly Bowlers Angling has gone, this was a great shop and I've spent many an hour and chugged a fair bit of tea in there in my youth

Bowlers Angling was bought out by Bromages of Green Lane, Dagenham a few years ago. Both now gone from Dagenham.

Homer of Forest Gate was another long gone tackle shop
As were.
Bonner Aquatics Bethnal Green
Lee,s Fishing Tackle Roman Rd. Bow
Johns Fishing Tackle Columbia Rd Bethnal Green. Later of Stepney Green.

So many now gone. It,s not the same on .............. Tinternet ...........

I thought Sean Bevan sold up about 5 years ago because of health problems but the new guy kept the name. Still sad to hear of his passing very helpful guy

Being a Tottenham boy until Essex called... I remember Charlie Rew's and Don's of Edmonton as being my local shops.

I moved to Romford and my son worked in Bromages for a few years in Green Lane. I was sorry to see Bowlers in Dagenham go as well, I liked that shop too.

It was Sean Mullins who died, he was found dead in the flat above the shop...

My local tackle shop was Keane(s) of Plumstead, we always talked about being keane(keen) to go fishing as kids and related that word to the shop.

Horseshoe Tackle was where I peddled like fury in my school dinner hour after selling my school dinner token in order to buy maggots hooks and shot. They were far more important to this young child than a school dinner ever was.

My pocket money was saved for Nottingham's Shipstone's beer and Player's No 6. Although I did stop smoking at the age of 12 when I realised it may contaminate my bait!

Harry The owner of Bowlers opened his shop up one Sunday morning, he just pulled the door shutter up enough for him to get in, about half an hour later his son turned up and thought it strange that the shop was not open properly, he went in to find his father had had a heart attack and died.
