Ferrule Stoppers-Spiles
As we all know its important to keep the metal suction ferrules on our cane rods free from dirt and grime. Many good quality rods obviously came with made to measure stoppers but often these have been mislaid. Its probably not an original idea, but I have been using wooden spiles (used on beer barrels) as replacement stoppers. They usually fit directly into butt section ferrules and can be cut and sanded to suit. Middle section stoppers will need a bit more sanding and cutting to length. They can been bought very cheaply on a well known internet auction site.

Are you using the hardwood ones or the softer ones? The hardwood ones look to have the potential to add a cork sleeve

Re: Ferrule Stoppers-Spiles
I have just acquired a 100 of these so if anybody wants a few send me a PM with your name and address and I will put some in the post. One will normally make two stoppers for a two piece rod and for a three piece rod you will need two. If you want you can whip them in the same colours as your rod or paint them with bright coloured paint so they can be easily seen and not lost. I sometimes write the name of the rod they are used on with a very fine permanent marker pen.
