I have never used a bobbin before but have just purchased on impulse a pair of these for £2.00 from eBay.

They are being sold as 'Traditional Ledger Bobbins - The bobbin features a removable top which is versatile and easy to use, our bobbins have a removable top so that more weight can be added for additional wind or river flow resistance'.

Chaps I am confused, how do I use one.

The removable top allows you to add shot for weight in the hollow body. The ring through the bottom is used to tie some Dacron or like to your rear rest so that the bobbin doesn't end up in the drink..... :Hat:

I have some of these somewhere from some point in the distant past... but my recollection is I never used them as I found they damaged the line as the clip was very tight - might be worth checking yours out before use.

It's a crying shame you can't get the old style washing up liquid bottle tops any more.

Cheers
Steve

I have a pair of those, I made the line clip groove a little wider so as not to pinch the line

I used to make mine with a wine cork (or half of one) and a couple of map pins. A net curtain hook on the other end to attach to some line or cord, stops it from flying into the bushes and away you go. Painted white or fluoro orange they looked very chic.
