Bert was one of the tightest men I have ever met. When he died a couple of years ago he left in cash £1.500,000. Why would you do that? Any way apart from being mean with himself you would never get anything any good from Bert apart from very good angling advice, that was free. A few years before he died he gave me a bashed up Marco Standard Carp rod that was a mess, he couldn't be bothered to restore it himself. I have just restored it and it a great piece of kit.I have not touched the handle, left as may as the original lumps and bumps as possible and used agate rings throughout. It is the classic 10' 2" with a lovely soft and gentle 1¼lb test curve, so it could be used as an Avon. If Bert was still here he would probably ask for it back.

Good story and very nice job done. Bert was a certainly a special man. I also knew 2 very tight men, mechanics at the refinery, twins. They were so tight that they took hot water from the refinery home in thermo bottles to use it for washing up...

Lovely job sir and good for another fifty years!
I often think that the cane rods that pass through our hands may well still be in use when they are 100 years old, I don't think that will be the case with modern rods however?
I do love to see restorations on the forum, keep 'em coming chaps
