A decade before I was even born yet, still, the event still leaves me with mixed feelings. From small acorns ………….

A capture that I believe, started the whole specimen hunting scene. What would DW say if he could see the state of things now?

I remember seeing her at London Zoo in the 60s.

She looked quite small!

I also saw her at London Zoo, as I lived nearby at the time and fished in the Regents Canal, right by the zoo. I thought she looked massive when compared to any other freshwater fish that I had seen!

Most of us shrink as we get older!

I think she was down to 30lb before she passed. Still a huge fish on my scales and probably " shrunk" by the massive tank.

I agree and with the benefit of hindsight putting her in the zoo aquarium was probably not the best thing for her. Her capture caused such a sensation at the time, that everyone wanted to see her!

I remember gazing in wonder at this fish in London Zoo in the 60's, also remember feeling sorry for it having to live in a sterile tank rather than its natural home.

Things have changed very much in zoos nowadays. I remember seeing Guy the gorilla sat in a tiny barred cage and the polar bears tracking 3 steps left and right in a horrible obsession and being upset as a kid.

To be fair to Richard Walker the option in claiming the record may have involved killing the fish to make a record claim
