MkIV cane carp rod list?

Post by Cat »

Evening All,
I was wondering if we have produced a (definitive) list of MkIV (and such) cane carp rods, and if not, may we give this a go? By MkIV, I suggest rods manufactured following B. James marketing the first 'mass' produced Richard Walker MkIV under their name. The umbrella limits being 10' ish, built cane, kit or British manufacturer, MkIV 'esque' (for example I would include rods designed as such, but not actually saying MkIV - a Marco Standard Carp may be an example of this (although, accepted, it's somewhere between an Avon and MkIV in test curve, but I'm sure you get the idea))! May include SU, and produced, shall we say, during the 'zenith' until the late 60's.
The simple intention is a bit of entertainment through a cold winter's night!
Regards Cat

I will have a look in my workshop Cat aside from the B James ones if my memory serves me right I have several mkIV's from different makers.
I'll put some pictures on as soon as I manage to dig them out. This might take a few days.
John.

I will dig out some info on how the MK IV came about and some early information on the rods.

It will take me a day or two.

There's a well known saying: "All MKIV carp rods are carp rods, but not all cane carp rods are MKIVs."

Personally, without the 'Walker Hinge' and taper, I wouldn't include them in the list, because these distinguishing characteristics make them MKIVs. Otherwise without, they're just other versions of cane carp rods.

If they are advertised as MkIV type they have to be included, who are we to say otherwise...??? and lets face it, most, if not all the cane carp rods are based on the MkIV design to a greater or lesser degree...

Accepting the distinctions and argument, let's go with all carp rods (as described in the first post), then divide between those with the taper and Walker hinge, and the 'others' from manufacturers who joined the 'movement',.
