Charringtons Ales Float

Post by Rotrax »

As above. Had it thirty years, gifted to me by a neighbour who's father, a well known Lincolnshire man, had just passed away. He said I could have his gear if I promised to use it, a promise I have kept.

Along with some good stuff was plenty of dross. This was disposed of and the good stuff added to my tackle collection, all which is used, nothing on the wall or in a frame.

The float is wooden, hardwood stem, balsa body, dark green bottom, orange centre, white above followed by a green tip. A Toby Jug transfer with Charringtons above it and Ales below it. Badly faded by UV on the transfer side of the balsa middle.

Not interested in value just if they are scarce or not.

If they are scarce I might not use it in case of loss.

In the terminal tackle were two sets of 'Parrot Beak Gorge Hooks to Gimp Wire'

Awful looking things, the mind boggles at their use!

Not common yet not really rare. They came in several sizes and colour ways and were made by Auger. Here are a few varieties from my collection.

well I have been going to tackle fairs for years and i have never seen any, so must be pretty scarce, I would frame them rather than fish with them.

Lovely little items but I have to wonder if they are any better than the mostly awful beer that Charrington made at the time!
