I started fishing in 1959 buying my first cane rod in 1963, a 9ft heavy ledger rod which I used mainly for pike fishing. This rod soon had it's limits so I had to progress to other rod materials. The rod sadly was not looked after to fell into poor condition. I did not think about cane rods again much untill I came across a Chapman 550 at a local car boot for £10 which was quickly snapped up by me. Interest now rekindled I have now got a Chapman 11ft Shelford, a Chapman 500 plus 5 other cane rods.
Star rod is a Partridge 10ft Mk 4 which was owned by the late Dr Barry Rickards which I have still to use. I have manged to buy another 9ft heavy ledger rod which I am about to have restored plus the Chapman 500
Nearly all the cane rods are fished with centre pin reel which I have a collection of
John Austerfield
