Can anyone remind me of the title origin for that great book No Need to Lie by Dick Walker?
I remember being told it was from a poem but I am not sure which.

Re: No Need to Lie - Origin of Title
Lord, grant that I may catch a fish
So large that even I,
When speaking of it afterwards,
Should have no need to lie.
So large that even I,
When speaking of it afterwards,
Should have no need to lie.

The greatest book on fishing exploits that I have ever read - absolutely inspirational - my Granny bought me the original book for my 14th Birthday - I still have it complete with original dust jacket and I read it every year in the week leading up to the 16th June.

Many thanks to you both
MWithell for the poem and yes I totally agree with PerthshoreHarrier on your thoughts on the book.
As with you the book really captured my imagination and I borrowed it from the local library on many occasions when I was a young lad until I could afford my own copy. It is still top of my list of favourite angling books not only for Walker's descriptions of catching big fish but also the superb artwork of Reg Cooke.
Thanks again and Tight Lines

I was given the book over 45 years ago by someone whose father used to fish. I think it's a first edition but it has no dust cover and it's well read.

And I never have lied, not exaggerating sizes anyway. I was given the book on a birthday or Christmas just after it came out, it had a massive influence on me.

One of the very few books that has a DW worth nearly as much as the book - if the publisher could have predicted it’s popularity, they would surely have supplied a slip case rather than that flimsy wrapper.
But, of course, it has been reprinted,…no,I’m not going there again!
