Hi wayne, just in case you dont know, the 500 and the 550 are very different beasts. I wouldnt use my 550 for what i use my 500 for, and vice versa.

I’m very new to split cane, could you give me more info. I’ve a Dennis Pye for Pike fishing and very happy with it. I wanted the 500/550 for chub but in the same area where I fish there are big carp and they are fussy but when they feed they will take anything so have been smashed up a few times.

The 500 is a great rod for chub, the 550 is more like a MklV and should handle largish carp.

The test curves are a 1lb for the 500 - - and 1.5lb for the 550. With fish getting bigger and bigger the 550 could be used for most fish.
