Hardy butt and tip rings

Post by OldAngler »

Is there a 'correct' colour for the linings, (and rod ring style), of the butt and tip rod rings / guides on early Hardy split cane rods?
Specifically the rod is a Regal fly rod dated 1904. The intermediate rings are No. 2307. This may be one of Hardy's patent numbers, of which they used to be very proud and put on their rods.

Many thanks, Old Angler

The early rings were clear agate, rare to find good ones too.

Rod, I am sure I can help you out with a period cradle butt ring, but the tip rings are quite scarce, I doubt I have one.
I will be able to check after the weekend, and get hack to you.

I have a few clear agate tip rings. Let me know the size, bore and ring, and I may be able to help you out. A pic would be great.
If you have no grease with you, and your rings are full of ice, do not cut out the ice with a pen-knife but get your man to put the rings one by one in his mouth, and so to thaw the ice.

To Paul F and Fredline,

Gentlemen. Thank you so much for your kind offers. TFF members are so generous!
However, I was only asking for advice / guidance. I think I have suitable rod rings in stock, now I know what is authentic, but if I meet problems I shall get back to you.

Many thanks to both of you.
