Another MK IV thread sorry!

Post by EdNash »

Hello, I have just got hold of an early MK IV. Trumpet handle, spigott tip section, clear butt ring etc. It is in a sorry old state but very straight. The whippings are very dark. I know they were done in green sometimes but could this be one done in black. It has never been refurbed. Also, how do I tell if it is a carp or and avon, I understand avons are rare. Thanks for looking and not yawning, or just yawning a little bit. I shall put up some piccys.

No need for apologies...remember the old adage 'Can't have too many MkIV posts'! Pictures would be good. Regards Cat

Generally, unless it says Avon it's a carp rod. Definitely green whipped and the spigot end ferrules and Ealing address makes it an early rod.
Not everyone's thoughts of course, especially on these older rods but in my opinion it would be well worth stripping and doing a full restoration on.

Wal.

The Avon had a 24 inch handle the Carp had a 28 inch one, including the rubber butt/end cap
