It's been awhile.......

October was a long time ago when I last wet a line......
The Trent now back in fishable state and a free afternoon....too many reason to bother you with here!
Filled the shoulder bag with my go to Mitchell 300,odds and ends and float tube.
Bait was to be bread, target fish chub.
Rod would be an old favourtite,a Shakespeare Champion 13 foot float rod.
waders donned off I go.
Fifteen minutes later I arrive on the banks of the Trent .The long glide is available and decission made long trotting it is.
The river was carrying a little extra water and a greenish tinge .All looked good .
Tackle assembled ,bank negoiated and one happy Trentfisher ready for action.
Mashed bread was the feed with my oversized punchedbread discs would be at the business end.
Following a couple of run throughs and some feed dropped in it was time to simply enjoy.
After about twenty minutes the red tip of the float burried out of sight and my strike was met with a solid thud of a chub.
It was a good fish ,staying deep.
It was a caging affair,me not wanting to loose the prize and the prize heading mid river almost sensing that 2lb hook length.
Finally gaining the upper hand the battle continued under the rod tip.
The big mouth came the surface and with a body to match.
My prize glided into the waiting net and was mine.
If this was to be my only fish of this short session ,there would be no complaints from my side.
I am not a scales and numbers man but this chub would be close if not passing 5lb mark.....overjoyed!
Normal service resumed ,more feed more trots followed by a slight tweak to the float depth and bang another solid thud.
I was in again.Same tremendous fight before slipping in the net.
No way were the words I uttered another chub of a similar size to the first.
Back to it controlled feed keeping the float on a good line, checking it back as it gets close to the final part of the glide. It disappears and my strike is met with a resistance. Not the same as the previous two.......Bream ,that familiar side on movement and staying deep until under the rod tip.
The wide body is netted .A fish in the 4 to 5lb bracket is admired and released.
The afternoon had slipped away ,but still time for some more trots.
The tip of the float disappeared again.
This time the resistance is heavy and powerful .Another chub, feeling bigger than the last two.....is this really happening?
The fight starts at the end of the glide .This heavy fish staying deep and then moving to mid river.
Line is gain and given.Keep your nerve.
This fish is now in front of me but not ready for the net.
the battle continues under the rod tip ,then finally the head breaks the surface and is drawn in to the waiting net.
Bigger it is could be a six...
Does it matter,no it is a fabulous way to end the session.
The rain has come in as I walk back home but I don't think I noticed as the only cloud I was on number nine.
If i can sort my phone out I will post some photos.
All the best-Nige.
