Oldrod, I fish all over the place, too many venues to be honest. I have found a really nice stretch of the Kennet, fish the Thames, there is a swim on the Basingstoke Canal which I fish regularly and a couple of spots on the K&A Canal. I moved to Hampshire from Buckinghamshire in 2013 but so far am unable to find a lake with decent roach fishing - too many blasted carp! For me the roach (of a decent size) is the most fascinating and difficult of fish to catch.

Ps my family came down to the east end of London from Northamptonshire in 1770's ish..
I have spent some time there a couple of years ago investigating, very interesting!!!!
The close season is an important and interesting time for the Angler who set out to catch big fish. It is a timely opportunity for him to make new tackle or renovate old. There are no end of jobs to do, apart from those horrible things called Gardens!

Breadhead I could not agree more with your last comment. You will find like souls on here. I too rank roach as my favourite quarry, but like you find waters blighted with carp, carp, and more carp! My limited roach fishing skills are challenge enough, without those pesky things interfering. Rant over.
