I'm not a very good fly fisherman but I'm going to give it more of an effort this year, after some bad news about my wife's health last month we have decided to have a break with some family who have the river Tees at the rear of their cottage, we have decide to to all the things we put off ....as everyone does.............my wife said I should go fishing as my sister in law is a nurse she would be fine plus I am only 60ft away at the bottom of the garden and yes were quite jealous of this beautiful location so I'm going to have a go, I have a lovely split cane fly rod with an intrepid centre pin reel it I took some advice on what weight line I should use as it is quite a light rod mainly for wild trout and grayling I have never caught a fish on the fly before so here goes I'll let you know how I get on ...... or not.....!!!!!!!!

Good luck - I’m sure you’ll get some thing to take the fly…

Best wishes! After catching you'll be wanting to tie your own flies!

Many thanks my first afternoon foray was great I had a couple of takes but failed to catch although the practice was needed, the Tees is a fast flowing river so the more practice the better 👍😁

You never know, as demonstrated by an acquaintance who caught a thirty pound fresh run Salmon from his back garden.....no not on any well known game river. Nope it was the Sussex Rother near Midhurst. Who knew fish of that collosal size ran up such a tiny river. Fat Bloke won't mention the three two pound roach he caught on the fly from the Wey whilst using the nymph in July many, many years ago. By the way they were my first two pound roach ever. Now caught ninety two over the magic figure from seven different waters, mostly on the float. Eight more and it will be time to call it a day.

Does this mean Fatty can call himself a roach angler yet?

As stated earlier, you never know until you go.....then you do.

Good luck.

As ever,.....
