secret perch pond

Post by JimmyBobkin »

Some years ago a friend took me to a farm trout fishery to try and teach me the art of fly casting. After a fruitless but enjoyable day, we talked with the owner about fishing in general. During the conversation, he mentioned an old course pond on his land, hidden in the trees, a five minute walk up the hill, which used to contain course fish, and some big perch. This stuck in the back of my mind ever since and today I made the decision to phone him and ask about the old pond and what the chances were of me trying it out. He told me that the pond is sometimes used a a spillover for course fish caught in the trout fishery and some double figure carp, along with tench and roach were transferred there over the past couple of years. No one ever fishes it. Are the old big perch still there? No idea. Next week i hope to find out (weather permitting). Am I excited?

Wow! Sounds like a dream. Christmas has come early... :thumb:

Chance is always powerful. Let your hook be always cast; in the pool where you least expect it, there will be a fish

Have you braved the monsoons & fished it or has it overflowed & allowed the coarse fish to re-join the trout?
