As anglers we owe a lot to the push bike for allowing us as youngsters to get about the local waters and mounting adventurous expeditions to more distant locations. I was more from the Raleigh Chopper era though. I was also part of a fishing gang that explored anywhere that held water, searching for fish of any species and size.

Gradually as I became more passionate and serious about angling I would try to invite just a select few along, as some would accompany us to just lark about often ending in huge mud fights on the tidal Thames. Eventually I would sneak off on my own or side step them by arranging to meet up somewhere far away from where I would be fishing!

Two memories:

my Dad catching a small catfish- and spending the rest of the day with people trying to buy it as word got round (he put it straight back)

and falling in over the top of my wellies in February- and hiding it from Dad all day as I knew we would go him if he found out my size 11s were at -2 degrees!

Popped along to Warren pond this afternoon...Picnic etc with me Kids. Rod at home. Dog on Lead...

All of a sudden me son says..." Dad, Its Mr Crabtree"( hes read the book) ..........and true enough there he was

Crouched on his stool, Trilby perched on the Bonce, cane rod quill float breadpaste. Very freindly told me he'd had a 4lb Tench( last week) And I was scratching my eyes in disbelief :o

I wished him well as we walked off in search of Ice creams....My other( middle) son said " Whos Mr Crabtree Dad?" Alex my eldest said" hes in fishing books Joe" I nodded

As we walked away I turned around and scratched me head....He didnt half look like him...He really did :geek:

3 hours yesterday afternoon with my 8 year old son.

The float wobbled abit with all the 2 inch Rudd headbutting my peice of breadflake :o

We spent most of our time looking at a bright orange and black creepy crawley as well as feeding the ducks...And watching out for rabbits

Maybe next we will catch a fish I told H as we walked towards the Ice cream shop on the way home

Nice one John,

Did you see any other fish apart from the Rudd?

Yes Gaz I did...... A Carp out cruising about( bout 12 in long) also lots of fry jumping out the way of something.

Anglers on the the other Forest ponds have told me that there are some nice Tench in there.

Also there were other anglers there yesterday.

If I really wanted to catch the carp or Tench....Id be back for Dusk to dark or Dawn with Bread and worms/corn.

No weed much in Warren but lots of silt.

Having said that Mr C told me he got that Tinca out at lunchtime!
