Dorset arrived and while it does need some work the cane appears to be ok.

Mostly just the varnish pealing off, I am going to keep it for Winter and have a crack at a bit of restoration work myself. :thumb:

I bought this rod.

The mid section is fine. All rings were rusty, the butt ferrule beyond repair and the handle shot.

It is now stripped, with new shives fitted. Replacement guides and ferrules bought from H&H.

The biggest problem has been finding the green and red twist bindings. Have gone for light green silk frim olivers with scarlet tippings and intermediates.

Will post photo's as the rod progresses.

Progress has been slow of late but the rod is completely stripped, the handle shaped, winch fittings in place and ferrules fitted.

Rings and thread are sourced, light green and red, amber agate tip and butt high bells.

Then the sacry bit - varnishing.

To be fair, this is a better photo - shadows at the top fluted bit dont really do the handle many favours in the last one.

Not perfect, but I'm happy as a first attempt and feels silky smooth in the hand.
