Can anybody identify these old floats please?

Post by Stunner1901 »

Hi

I have just acquired a box full of old floats from a match angler.

There are a few ultra onions, and benny ashurst sticks plus a few camafloats but the vast majority are unnamed

Can anybody shed any light on them please?ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Thanks in advance
Steve

Most of them look like I made them in that they are pretty rough and ready. Apart from a couple of the antennas they all look home made or repainted. Perfectly usable but, unless somebody does recognise some, of little value.

I think that was cheap - 33p a float! Lose what? Sell at 10 for a £5.00 ex P & P?

Olly I was really hopeful that there would be a couple of gems amongst them. Very new to the vintage game and thought the light green ones looked good
Not too worried about making a quick quid just looking for bargains/hidden gems

I think you have found some ‘gems’ there - handmade floats and usually made by the anglers themselves back in the day. More often than not finding a bargain is more to do with it finding you - or put another way someone will say out of the blue ‘oh I have some cane rods’ that type of thing. I’d say you did well with your purchase there are a number of floats in the collection worthy of another outing or two surely?

Then you have to have a good idea of what's what. I am afraid that comes with a bit of hard work - and a lot of luck!

Olly if you are referring to my post - of course you are right - but chance finds and/or offerings are how some of my go to items of tackle have been found. It is a rarity but when it occurs it’s marvellous. I can categorically say however on those occasions I was never looking for a bargain.

I agree with that. Apparantly the guy was a champion match man back in the day and i must admit many of the floats are lovely tbf
I will definitely have a trot down the river with a few of them without doubt
