Buckingham & District Angling Association - Upper Ouse

Post by Julian »

As some of you know Buckingham & District Angling Association had the fishing rights on most sections of the Upper Ouse
from Beachanpton to Buckingham, and that recently the farmer who owns the land containing the now almost legendary 'twins' stretch of the Ouse (which is from Thornborough Mill to the point where Padbury brook runs into the Ouse),
has given over the land as conservation land to Natural England. ( There was a major article in the angling press earlier this year regarding the loss of this stretch)
Therefore BDAA have lost this unique stretch - the home of many 3lb, 4lb and even 5lb perch ( including Martin Bowler's 5lb 4oz perch as featured on Cartching the Impossible)

However all is not quite what it seems. Having looked at the details of the changes for 2012/13 season on BDAA's website:

http://www.bdaafishing.org.uk/

they still have a section of the 'twins' stretch - bizarely lying in the middle of the whole of the 'twins' stretch. This must be due to the lie of the land - ie that the farmer does not own the field in that middle section.
See BDAA's excellent detailed marked-up river map here:

http://www.bdaafishing.org.uk/docs/bdaa ... o-iss2.pdf

and it appears, unless I am mistaken, that also includes the precise location where the MB's 5lb perch was caught.

Regardless of that, after the current flooding on this stretch, just maybe, all the huge perch have been pushed downsteam to the Leckhampstead stretch or Walkers stretch, on which BDAA srill have all the fishing rights
There is no peace on earth like the peace of fishing in the early mornings
