Hello All,

Here, below, is probably the most famous shot of May at Redmire. It shows the great catch shared by May, Gerry Berth-Jones and Derrick Davenport, (he of Davenport and Fordhams, the well-known rod makers, etc.) These Redmire carp were caught during the first week of the 1955 season, the second-heaviest being May's 21lb 8oz leather; the first ever twenty-pound plus carp caught by a woman in Britain. The other carp in this shot are, Derrick's brace consisting of a 12lb common and 22lb leather, and Gerry's pretty 18lb linear mirror.

May and Kay Steuart, Dave's late wife, were, of course, the prominent lady anglers in the pioneering days of carp fishing in this country.

Besties,

Len.

Kay and May were legendary in their angling exploits Len, have we ever seen the like? I cannot think of a high profile, big fish woman angler to compare.

Another stunner, Len.
That was a true red letter catch when carp of these proportions were very few and far between. Oh to have been there to witness it.... Image

There's lots of cine film of Kay catching fish with Dave. It would be nice if it became digitalised before it is lost forever.

There was a video in the original Richworth series showing lots of it on VHS format when VHS video was still pretty new.

Hello Shaun,

That's a very good idea. I'll talk to Dave and see what's become of the original films. I'll let you know how this progresses.

Like you, I had the Richworth VHS tapes but don't know now what has become of them.

Besties,

Len.
