I thought the 60s version The World of Wooster with Ian Carmicheal and Dennis Price was far better than the Fry/Laurie one. But then I can't stand Stephen Fry. I occasionally wonder if Jeeves is in fact meant to be a ghost, Bertie often mentions his ability to materialise suddenly without any sound of approach. Although the stories began to be published in 1916 nearly all of them were published after the end of WW1 and Jeeves mentions occasionally that he served in the Army during the war as a batman, possibly to Lord Worplesdon https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_J ... Worplesdon. His name was taken from that of the Yorkshire born Warwickshire professional Percy Jeeves who died at the Battle of the Somme in the attack on High Wood https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Percy_Jeeves. His body was never recovered and he is commemorated at Thiepval.

Incidentally Lord Worplesdon is a central character in Joy in the Morning, one of the best comic novels of all time. If you fail to laugh out loud several times when reading this I would recommend calling in a medical professional and having your vital signs checked https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joy_in_th ... use_novel). Wodehouse wrote most of it while interned by the Germans during WWII.

What is your favourite word?
I suspect it could be “love”, despite its drawbacks in the rhyming department.

I'm in the army surplus camp. I use combat trousers in the winter and the plain green lightweights in the summer. Really hard wearing and relatively cheap. The lightweights are getting more difficult to find now, as they have not been in circulation for a while

Decathlon is cheap and has a wide range of styles and colours. They also do heavy duty ones too.
