Chapman's 'Hunter' 12ft. 3 piece
'I may be treating Mrs. AC to the stage show of 'Cats' (it's her birthday tomorrow !!!) ... and staying overnight in an hotel ... but the internet allows many benefits.
When a contact on another internet website offered me this rod I simply had to say yes.
Winging it's way to me is a Chapman's 'Hunter,' a 12ft., 3 piece bottom rod.
I believe that it may have a knocking ferrule, and that the cracked varnish on the whippings look as though it will need a strip and rebuild, but it's undoubtedly a worthwhile project.
Better photos when it arrives.

A nice acquisition. A bit of a nibble on the handle but easily fixed.

Lovely rod, I have the same rod that had been restored by Paul Cook. It has a great action and I've had barbel up to 12lbs on it.
I tend to favour the 2 pce bottom rods , B James Avon and Oliver's Mk IV , mainly for ease of transport. Must dust it off and get it back on the bank again.

Re: Chapman's 'Hunter' 12ft. 3 piece
The rod arrived today, and I'm a very happy boy.
I phoned Chapman's to have a quick chat about it, as the detailing doesn't match the description of the rod given on their website ... as it has a rounded end cork handle and no intermediate whippings.
When I told them that there was a hand written "N. L." on the handle they confirmed that this is, in fact, a late model ... and that the 'N. L.' stands for 'New Look.' The omission of an end cap and button, and the lack of intermediates, came at a time when there was pressure on pricing by the influx of foreign rods coming into the country ... so these things were left off as a 'cost cutting' exercise. For me, that just adds to the rods story.
The rod itself is die-straight, and I believe that it's never been touched or altered in any way, as attested to by the matching number '9' on all three sections.
I know I said a while ago that in future I'd be sticking to rods of 11ft. maximum (arthritic shoulders !) ... but at 14.2oz. (403gr) this 12 footer's hollow built butt and centre sections mean that it weighs in at only 0.65oz (19gr.) more than my 10ft. 6in. Allcock's 'Sapper Roach' !!! ... so I'll be making an exception in this case.

Very nice!
I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete.

I have a Chapman The Hunter 12ft in NL. First I was hoping to find a normal one, now I like this new look very much.
Kind Regards
