I am informed they have them in stock, will cost about £100 incl delivery, I ordered one yesterday !

I wanted a new tip they were going to charge me well over £120 with a ferrule....... I thought..... I could get a whole rod from ebay for that

£100 for a new tip, £20 for a new ferrule, seems reasonable to me, especially if the rod has sentimental value.

What would a new 500, or indeed, any cane Avon cost these days?...

Yes Loop but you get a new bit of cane that will last another 50 years rather than probably a rather tired rod that has seen a battle or two, remember a brand new rod will be at least £500, probably a lot more depends where you go.
