Well,I got a Chapman 500 a few days ago and laid it side by side to my unknown one.
Nobby Sir,you might be right with your stretched MK IV Avon. The taper is nearly exact
the same on this two rods which both are not compound tapered. The stretched one
only has a much more longer cork handle than the 500 (and ca.3 inch longer than the
B.James MK IV Carp handle....)
The threaded tip guide for a quiver tip is really comfortable to use and I have to say
I miss it on the standard 500...
All in all a nice piece of cane, this rod..

Re: Unknown Chapmans rod
Well, after the advice to ask at Chapmans I had a call an a few Emails with John Chapman.
A really helpfull and friendly man I have to say.He couldnot remember to have built this
rod but its possibly made at their company as a custom blank as one of their 11ft Avon rods.
A really nice Tench and Chub rod in fact but a tad to light to take a big Barbel out of the
currance.
Really glad that it isnot a fake all in all....

Whatever it is it looks great!
I wish they had strayed into the 10.5 or 11ft rods!

Hello TT, I know AshbyCut has the 894 (not B) (or did!) and possibly Nobby has the actual item.
Here's the thread from a few years back..

Re: Unknown Chapmans rod
I have a powerful 11' carp rod built on a Chapman blank that I bought from Steve Middleton. It had been built for a personal friend of his – so they did make specials from time to time. It has a 2lbs test curve and is really quite powerful – I've turned a middle double away from a sunken tree with it without too much bother. However, it is quite a heavy rod, particularly in the tip.
I'm fairly sure they were making some of the blanks for Middlesex Sharpes who offered an 11' MkIV Avon so it may be one of those…

Re: Unknown Chapmans rod
O.k.
But hollowbuilt?Iam nearly sure it is because my Mk IV s and the Lrh 2 and 3
I own are much smaller in size between the slices....excuse me that I donot
Find the word for diametre in hexagonal cut..this Avon is about 13 mm at
The end of the cork where a B.James is about 11mm and it is much lighter
By the feel.In fact the 5,8ft Section feels much lighter than the 5ft of the
Carp.Who knows when John Chapman doesnot for sure...

Re: Unknown Chapmans rod
Just to muddy the water a little . When I ordered my Quinette Mk8 blank October 2nd 2015 (just prior to their relocation.) I was offered 10ft or 11ft blanks. So they have made 11 foot blanks.
