Chapman's rods

Any views on these budget end of the market cane rods?

I have the 500 deluxe, 550 and a Dennis Pye 700 pike rod.

The 500 is a basic MKIV avon, the 550 is the carp rod similar to MKIV carp but little lighter action I think.

I quite like using them especially when I am in tougher terrain and don't want to risk using my better quality rods.
They are pretty cheap and a good intro to using cane before you plunge into the world of BJ James or Edward Barder.

Goes for me too, You can never have to much cane and having ones that are not so expensive would be handy at times.

They are worth keeping an eye open for but there are some real beaten up and droopy examples out there.

I used to use a 500, but found it less powerful than a MkIV Avon; an average Rother chub would have it bent double. They are nice though, and feel well balanced in the hand. I do still use a twelve foot Chapman Hunter occasionally (when I'm feeling robust!) which is a fantastic barbel and tench rod.

Tell you what though chaps, the price of these is climbing very quickly. You used to see them go for 50 to 70 quid, but now they're calling 100 + on e(xpensive)bay. I like the look of the pike rod for heavy carp and barbel fishing myself, and the 550 seems to be rather nice..

The 550 is lighter than the BJ James MKIV carp. It makes a nice floater rod.
The Dennis Pye 700 pike rod is a good pike rod alternatively what Walker called his MKIII carp 'The Whopper Stopper'
