"Expert" restored & had it's first outing on the Itchen navigation at Winchester early this morning.

3 small roach & a 1lb 4oz grayling & the rod was a pleasure to use.

Thanks, Champ.

Made getting up at 5am even more worthwhile!

More generally. The rod turned out to be a Hardys Expert [see earlier in the thread]. Production of the particular model apparently stopped in 1936 but the number above the butt button preceeded by a "G" made this one 1937. Same year as my Mum! :chuckle:

Excellent, Sir ... and may the rod bring you many years more enjoyable service.

A great rod for tiddler bashing but keep away from big fish! Spanish reed butt section, whole cane spliced to smaller diameter whole cane middle section, whole cane spliced to split cane tip. It's a light rod (as cane rods go!), 12ft 2in, with a tippy action. "Burgundy" coloured whippings tipped with green. The butt ring on this example is unlined. Is this normal with this model? (maybe to help keep weight down). S/N G35664
