I've just loaded a a spool of line onto my Abu444a and the line has loaded conically...
Do any of you chaps have any ideas how to even the spooling top to bottom... I know on modern reels the trick is to add or subtract washers below the spool, but this doesn't seem an option on the older reels...
Thanks

Re: Abu444a spooling issue
Harry, if you can find an old reel to strip down, take the spindle out and use it mounted in a cordless drill to put the spool on. Then fill it with line carefully to get it as even as possible.
Then when in use it will only be the top 20 or 30 yards that wind on unevenly and isn't really noticeable. I do it to most of my Mitchell spools as its also a really quick way to fill the spool.
Make sure you wind it on in the right direction.
Wal.
