Another newbie here

Post by Andyman »

Hi, to everyone.

New boy Andy here from the former socialist republic of South Yorkshire.

Started fishing in the late 50's when my Dad took me to rivers and ponds mainly in Lincolnshire. Cane rods and floats was pretty much the only method used in those days and a one pound roach was the pinnacle. More recently got heavily into the carp scene but became disillusioned with sitting behind a bank of rods and buzzers. Then mates started taking TV's, tablets and the likes onto the bank. How about pizza delivery mopeds tearing along the footpath. There had to be a better way. Few years ago inherited a shed full of my Dad's old tackle which re-ignited the bug, unfortunately his main rod was way beyond repair but I decided to go back to my roots and source some decent but old rods, reels, floats etc.

Three years ago after retiring from being a chartered surveyor I bought a season ticket to the Welbeck estate which I hadn't fished for forty years but known to hold good head of roach, tench, carp and bream. Bonus was the winter pike fishing which is prolific. Twelve months later the smile was back on my face after catching roach and tench, all on an unnamed twelve foot split cane Allcocks rod, Mitchell 300 and home made porcupine floats.

Having been broken on such light tackle by some monsters I have obtained an Allcocks Superb 10' two piece carp rod which requires a bit of work. Look out in the rod section for photos shortly. This will be a winter project and hopefully used for stalking next summer.

Enough for now, take care everyone and tight lines.

Andy
