New Traditional Fisherman From Derby
Hello everyone,
I've enjoyed fishing since childhood and generally used modern-ish tackle, until several years ago when I bought an Olympic Match13 rod from a car boot sale. The rod reminded me of rods I saw anglers using growing up in the 70s. Of course I then needed an old reel to go with it and bought a Mitchell 300, which I'd always wanted as a youngster but never had. The rest, as they say, is history and I now have several old fibreglass rods including carp and float rods and a few cane rods including a Lee of Redditch Aqua Superb and Kiraku spinning rod.
I've just bought another - unnamed - cane rod online which I'm looking forward to using, although it may need some TLC first. I get more nostalgic as I get older - just turned 50! - and I prefer older tackle and methods to the fast-paced, over-priced and over-competitive fishing of today. I can have an enjoyable days fishing even if I don't catch anything, just being outdoors, enjoying my surroundings and using the old tackle, it takes me back. I'm looking forward to sharing my experiences and knowledge of traditional tackle even though I'm a relative newcomer.
Tight lines,
Jay

There are three things that improve with age: wine, friendship and water sense, and there's no short cut.
