1540 Salmon Reel

Post by DWW »

Hi
I have a 1540 Salmon reel which I have just acquired . I fish so that I wind in with my left hand but the reel came with line loaded for a right handed angler . I showed the reel to another angler who stated that it was set the " wrong way " .
Could anyone confirm if I need to change the pawls please to fish left handed ?
Thanks
DWW

Good solid reels without the fancy drags and hefty price tag of modern reels. I still like mine over many others I have aquired over the decades. They have a good weight to ballance double handed rods. Yes just disengage one and flick over the other pawl to swap hands but of course you'll need to strip all the line off and wind it all back on the right way

Thanks Liphook ! I have found a series of photos on the " Speycast " site which describes all the combinations of usage . There are in fact 16 ways that the pawls can be set ! Who knew ?
The reel seems fine for my use and its nice to have a more " traditional " reel !
Tight Lines !
