Duco/Ambidex restoration

I am becoming interested in restoring several old and tatty reels. A DucoB and several Delmatics.
Anyone recommend paints if I do the Dettol on them first?
Also one would need to remove and replace the badges first to avoid the names being erased... difficult or impossible?
I seem to remember some mention of a VW sand colour being suitable somewhere.
