Re: List of Ambidex Reel Models
Quite! I'll be honest and say that I used to think of and refer to what we now know of as the No.2 FP as a No.3 until Elwyn's work - in my defence until then nobody really seemed to care so much: the work on classification etc. of the Ambidex has really taken off in the last year or two (and good thing to - one of my favourite reel series!). Anomalies still seem to crop almost as regularly as true types (cf JP's strange side plate with Prov Patent) and let us not forget the infamous "Parts bucket" brought to our attention by Saint Moley!
I have a photo of Ted (a very generous gift from John of this forum fame) over my reel work table now: he looks down on me disapprovingly as I open up his reels and shake my head over their innards: I wonder what he'd have to say about all this attentiont hey are getting now?

See pics
Since what version of the Nr 2 did they no longer mention the "Nr 2" on the reel (but still on the box) ?
It has the flex-bail and chrome on the reelfoot.

Re: List of Ambidex Reel Models
My No2 FP came with the original box, or so I believe, but the box does not have a number 2 on the Ambidex 'badge', just a white circle.

Re: List of Ambidex Reel Models
Here are a couple of photos of my Ambidex No. 2 reel.
I bought it nearly two years ago but I have rarely used it, and now I have a Mitchell 300 and 352 I can't really see me using it again.
Therefore, as I am not a collectr ( I like to use all the rods and reels I have) I will probably sell it fairly soon - but it wasn't cheap - so I would want to get most of money back.
The first time I used it at the farm pool I fish, with my MKIV, I hooked and landed 5 carp to 9lbs ( that was back in April 2011):
