A 10oz Zander was caught from the Roding back in the 90's IIRC, It was despatched as they were not supposed to be in there... never heard of Eels though...!

I remember my Grandfather catching an eel in the late 1950s on my very 1st fishing trip with him

I've caught several eels from the Roding over the past couple of years - the one below was from the Buckhurst Hill stretch in 2012. I've also enjoyed sitting on the bank during the summer watching great big eels swim downstream through the sun-dappled shallow water. I've never seen a zander or a pike for that matter, but I know the latter has been caught along the Debden stretch.

Many, many eels from the Roding over the years and one, when I was a boy, I remember delighted my East End nan when I brought it home to her alive and ready for the pot. Long time ago of course and before I understood how old and challenging their lifecycle was.

Yes! There were always tench above Passingford Bridge in the '70's and Alby Hall put plenty into the millpool below.
