Army and navy Stores Butt End of Rod

This is just out of interest rally as I only have the butt section. Forgot about it and just came across it looking through my old junk bits. It has Army and Navy Stores, Victoria Street, London stamped on the butt ring. I was thinking it must be quite old looking at the style of the handle, Its all one part, the handle just tapers through. I cannot tell what wood it is made of. Sorry about the pics , best they came up. Any thoughts?
