Full circle: Efgeeco Rods, East Anglian Rods, Bob Kirk, Leed
I remember discussing Bob Kirk on the Forum at the end of last year. Well ....
Travelling full circle (it’s a small world) I found this from Julian Pardoe on Fishing Magic:
East Anglian Rod Co Ltd.
"The East Anglian Rod Co Ltd was formed in 1966 when my father and I bought the bankrupt company of RC Kirk Ltd in East Molsey and moved Bob Kirk and his machinery up toWymondham in Norfolk with the idea of selling rods just in East Anglia. Hence the name. 1966 was before Carbon Fibre had been invented, and most of our blanks came from Lerc in France, Sportex in Germany and Fibatube, which was the blank making division of Hardys of Alnwick. We made for coarse, sea and game fishing and, at our peak, production reached about 12000 rods per annum.
In the mid 70s moderate quality glass rods started to be imported from South Korea. Quality quickly improved and we found it harder &and harder to compete. We started to import from Korea ourselves and our UK production declined and we ceased our own production in about 1985. Meanwhile EAR had become general wholesalers and were now suppling tackle shops throughout the UK and exporting to 32 countries. Sales were over £7m in1989 when we sold the company to Porter Chadburn plc, who then bought Taylor & Johnson and Steades & Leeda. All 4 companies were put into one group, called Leeda. This is how Leeda as you now know it came into being."

Re: Efgeeco Rods
The postage does look a little on the "heavy" side.
It looked worth a punt until it crossed the £100 + plus postage line.......
I'm guessing that there may be a reason that the seller hasn't seen one before........

Re: Efgeeco Rods
The only Scandinavian connection I'm aware of is via the Efgeeco "Piker" spoon, which was actually made by Paravan of Norway.traditionalangling wrote:As for EFGEECO, who were of scandinavian origin...

Re: Efgeeco Rods
Efgeeco definitely made rods,I have two myself, both with the same transfer as the 'lyte'. Mine don't have any writing other than the transfer. One of mine is a wizard type, whole cane butt and very light middle and top section. The other one I have looks like it has either been doctored or is a very strange design, it has a cork only butt (no cane above handle), a normal mid section then a short top section??? but it doesn't feel like it has been chopped down (the tip is still a fine(ish) diameter.

Re: Efgeeco Rods
And another!
Just found the Efgeeco Richard Walker combination rod on the T.A.R.T. Facebook page.
Looks to be a 4 piece; whole cane butt plus 3 hex sections.
[Update: it is actually a 5 piece, but is missing the short handle.]
There are 1956 Angling Times adverts for this and other Efgeeco rods. I have asked the poster’s permission to copy them.
