C W Gill Sheffield

Post by Penninelad »

Has anyone heard of this maker? I have just acquired a 3 piece split cane roach type rod 11' simply marked " C W Gill Sheffied 11'".It will need a complete refurbishment.

The butt ring on this rod is still usable but all the other rings(there was no tip ring)are rusted and beyond saving.I had a replacement set but these too appeared rusty.I have soaked them overnight in cider vinegar and lo and behold they are not iron but nickel silver.I have removed most of the grime with cotton wool buds and they are having a final soak in cider vinegar before they are ready to be fitted.

Dawson’s on Holme Lane may be able to tell you, I’m a Sheffie born and bred but I’ve not come across that name before.

Kind Regards

My thoughts exactly,so when I popped into Dawson's earlier today for a pint of maggots I asked Dave Dawson. He had never heard of C W Gill.Good day on the South Yorkshire Navigation over 60 perch and roach, many of the perch over 1/4 lb the largest 2lbs 4 ozs, mostly on brandlings.
