Can anyone help with a rod ID please

Post by Aitch »

Good morrow gentlemen.... a fishing buddy was given a split cane rod of approximately 6-7' long with lined rings, albeit with the butt ring missing.... The badge is somewhat indistinct with the word "Martin"... I suspect it may be a Martinez and Bird rod...I took a couple of quick pictures...

I think that with the short butt and odd reel placing it could be a spinning or lure rod.... does anyone have any knowledge of such a rod please..

Many thanks

Harry

This rod was retailed by George Sewell Martin at 19 Arlington Way, near Sadlers Wells, Clerkenwell. The business traded from approx 1923 to 1960 or so.This rod dates from approximately 1940 to close This was the second of the two logos used . Previously the shield had a flat top and STREET not WAY with the change of designation of the road.I would like to have a copy of the early logo as I lost my example. JW Martin was deceased in 1915 so his son used the creedience of the father to launch the new business.
