Unknown twin tip rod

Post by Stef »

Hello,
a friend of mine is searching for information about an unusual rod which he has found recently. It is 11ft 2-piece, whole cane butt section with two tip sections. One has a split cane tip spliced into whole cane, the other glass spliced into whole cane. It has a soft but powerful through action, probably a great barbel rod. Unfortunately there are no labels or writings, has anyone seen a rod like this? Who could have made rods of similar specifications?

Thanks for looking
Stef

Thats a really nice looking rod Stef and certainly has some quality about it. Perfect length and choice of material for the sections.
I really couldn't say for certain who made it but the double whipped intermediates are more or less a trade mark of G Wilkins & sons.
Judging by the photos, the quality is up there with Hardy or Eggingtons.

Wal.

It is indeed a lovely looking rod, the cane looks superb. G Wilkins & sons is not a name I've heard of before but judging by the photos it look as though they made a very fine fishing rod.

It does look like a quality rod, also very versatile with the second top!

Hi Stef,I think Alcocks supplied the rods to G Wilkins,to be customised to their spec ,I have a 11ft whole cane with a split cane top joint,a roach rod in mint condition that I purchased in 1965.I'm almost sure that Steve Middleton gave me the history on the phone many years ago ask him he is very helpful.Reelmaker.
