This rod was given to a old boy who drinks with my brother in Hertfordshire, it was gifted to him by his grandfather in 1953. It was in a bit of a state when it was passed to my brother three years ago, I then took it to give it a new lease of life. I scraped the old varnish off but left the red intermediates alone, I put new rings on, cleaned the handle and varnished the rod with humbrol varnish (don't ask me why, I don't know). I can't remember it having any makers marks on it, but given the state of the rod it could well have had some at one time. I named the rod 'the oakwood' which was where the old boy lived when he was given the rod. My brother has never used it, so tonight I became the latest owner of the rod. I was hoping that it may be a Chapman but looking at the handle, I'm guessing it's not. So now I'm asking if anyone can recognise the rod from the handle.

Thanks

I will give it another try....

Does anyone know of a 1953 split cane rod, 10.5ft, sporting a double onion handle as in above photo....

Thanks

Hi BB any chance you could put photos on of the rod sections side by side & maybe some close ups.
Did it have agate rings butt & tip?
How long is the cork handle from end of rubber button to cane?
If you have a Vernier gauge take some width measurements of the cane from just above the handle every foot to the tip.
One of us out here might have some info???
John.

I think your rod may be an Aspindales model.... the photo attached shows an Aspindales Carpdale with a similar double ended butt.....

The Carpdale 10ft above was restored by Paul Cook and was/is for sale in Germany, and seems, like the Temedale 9ft stalking rod, to be a one off!

The ends of my rod butt are onion style, the ones in the picture look more a donut shape. But thanks anyway.

Could be a early/later modelled handle like B James with the trumpet, onion and doughnut variants?
