This has just arrived after a purchase from a certain auction site for very little money. It is a Homers News of the World 2 piece rod that has had a hard life, however most of the important bits are present and straight. The butt section is missing the female ferrule but has its original ceramic lined stripper ring and carries the early Homers logo. The rod fittings are marked " Roach 3 lbs Won by W Clews 23 Sep, 1932". The reel fitting is marked "News of the World Champion Rod". The spliced top is missing its original greenheart tip, this has been replaced with a glass top. Not for long. The original bag has its embroidered label and both are in excellent condition. When restored it will be 9' but with a built cane spliced top. I am looking forward to this one.

If you have no grease with you, and your rings are full of ice, do not cut out the ice with a pen-knife but get your man to put the rings one by one in his mouth, and so to thaw the ice.

I fancied that one John but forgot to up my bid.
I thought by looking at the pictures that the ferrule may have been stuck on the male.
I think it was originally a punt rod. Very nice rods to use.
Glad its gone to a good home and I am really looking forward to seeing it restored.

Well done John another great find! The rod ring pictured looks the same pattern as on the Sealey 'Roach' rod that I sold recently?

I have one of these awarded to TH Goodwin for the capture of a 15lb Carp August 1934. It's a Sheffield type rod with exactly the same flame decoration.
