Expertise on Hardy Reels needed
There's some interesting Hardy reels up for sale in Sheffield later this week: To see them go here https://sheffieldauctiongallery.com/Cat ... t_sag.html and enter the word Hardy. I don't think the descriptions are right. Lot 1249 looks a lot like a 1930's 'Eureka' with the perforation pattern and 'telephone latch' fitting but appears to have an integral line guard and be right-handed while the two reels in Lot 1251 look to be the same (3½" not 3¼") size rather than one being 5½". The one on the left looks like it could possibly a fly reel. Any experts out there able to help?

Do you think they've put damaged rim description is with the wrong picture ?

The trotting reel is now £130 after 10 bids. I'd have had a punt at the auctioneer's estimate £30 - £50

Are you looking at the same place as me? This sounds more like the Speedia wide which went on Ebay today for a ridiculous price.Mole-Patrol wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2020 8:01 pm The trotting reel is now £130 after 10 bids. I'd have had a punt at the auctioneer's estimate £30 - £50

1249 is a very early 3.5" eureka with cutaway rim, the leaded finish is worn away, but looks correct, circa 1920's
1251 yes left reel is a uniqua fly reel circa 1960, right reel is a 3.5" eureka, would be good to see the front suspect it to be a later 1940's model, well worn finish

Thanks for this, Paul. May bid on the first, suspect the hammer price will be well up on the auctioneer's estimate.Paul F wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2020 10:36 pm

A beautiful looking example of a Speedia wide but £133? I was a bit suspicious as I've seen similar interactions between the main bidder and the seller before.Mole-Patrol wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2020 7:06 amYes. Current high bid is £130. That Speedia seems to lack any drag - I have one exactly the same, a ratchet but no drag! Someone will know but a very early one?
Also looks to have been refurbished!
