the special "centrepins" for whitefish, grayling and arctic char

Post by Satt2006 » Tue Mar 06, 2018 8:16 pm

Here are some photos of the special centrepins which are used for catching whitefish and artic char (in lakes) as discribed in my post on the pink RoBo.

Image

here is a Balzer (the smaller siverish one, this is a very standard reel, Made in Germany)
the dark blue one is a Swiss made Speedy; the golden one with the small handles is a Swiss made Stucki (the most elaborated one of these);
and the golden one with the bigger handles is an Austrian costum built one (HM)

Image

here we have the special centrepins with a "turnable Handle"
te blue and the reddish bronze one are Swiss made Speedys, the silverish one ist a Stucki (swiss made)
and the golden one ist a Fario Hebeisen (also Swiss made)

and the Stucki "in action" on a B&W Avon CT G (was the nearest available one)

Thanks for showing those Christian. I love the look of the Stucki, it looks real quality.

They look great. Thanks for sharing Christian!

Are these reels as free running as centrepins?

Hallo Martin;

yes they are (more or less - most of them have ball bearings, the HM turns directly on/around the pin) - the best(turning) are the Stucki.

Some interesting reels there.
Quiet a few we don't see many of in the UK.
Thanks for the photos.
Great stuff.

Some rather nice looking models here! Plus an explanation of their use.

An interesting video showing how to cast with a 'Wenderolle'. At one point you can see, that they're float fishing an artificial nymph.

Here you can see someone fishinf for Whitefish with a 'Laufrolle' and 'Hegene'

I hope we'll soon see some pictures of how you're using your reels, Christian!

Some UK angles use nymphs when grayling trotting - I am yet to try it.

I also notice the line comes "off the top" of the reel in both videos.

The 1st video show trotting and the second to me is 'jigging'.

The whitefish (powan or pollan, etc) and the arctic char do like/need cold water inc alpine lakes.

Indeed, the whitefish and the arctic char love and need deep (alpine) lakes with oxygen rich, crystal clean and clear water - and as I already mentioned in the "Pink Robo" thread you catch them down to a 30 m (100 foot) depth.
