The Olympic Reel by Seiko
Has anyone seen one of these before.I bought it some years ago very cheaply intending to use it for dapping on Lough Corrib and then forgot about.I have just rediscovered it.It is very well engineered and although fairly heavy(14 oz) it is very free running and could even be used for trotting a float although I think it would be better suited legering for barbel and chub. The front of the spool is 3 1/2 " across and the reel will turn through 360 degrees so can be used to cast straight off the spool( perhaps I don't need to carry on practising my Wallis casting!).I think Olympic Reels were primarily designed for sea fishing but this appears to be aimed at the freshwater market.Your thoughts would be welcomed.

Definitely got an angler scout look about it.
The back looks a better engineered though.

I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete.

Look,s to be the Seiko Olympic Sea Sidecast reel
It also look,s to have a handle missing for the Multiplier option.

I think you are right.I wondered what the purpose of the revolving screw connected to a large cog in the innards was for.Now I know it should have a handle attached to it.I am always learning something on the TFF site!

The knob on the left is where the Multiplier handle should be.Paul D wrote:That's great, what do all the knobs on the back do?
The knob to the right of the centre nut is the ratchet on/off.
The knob to the right hand side is the ratchet adjuster, weak or strong.
The lever at the bottom is the Anti-reverse switch.
Paul D If you click on the Worldseafishing link in my previous post you will find all the info

I have the 80mm model which only has the multiplier but not the 1:1 handles on the front of the drum as here...

More here :
Note that Ueno Seiko Co Olympic is the same fishing tackle manufacture later known as Olympic Fishing Tackle Co and I believe that there is no connection (other than a similar name and Japanese) with Seiko watches.
