Funnily enough I have one of these

Yep. Similar age is about right. The brown one is mid 1970s, the silver is about 1977 from one of the ranges (Silver) that suceeded the 7000s, the brown and its kin. Both ranges were really good reels and still are.

Well chaps I thought I was cured with not a single diawa purchased in over a year, but once an addict always an addict it really is a personal battle.

I just couldn't resist this boxed 7700 with original paperwork and in vgc. As far as I know it's the biggest reel in the 7000 series and absolutely stunning with its unique side plate design.
I've let far to many of these go over the years and finally snapped!

I'll now add some pictures so you can all marvel at this wonderful craftsmanship, enjoy.....

I just couldn't resist this boxed 7700 with original paperwork and in vgc. As far as I know it's the biggest reel in the 7000 series and absolutely stunning with its unique side plate design.
I've let far to many of these go over the years and finally snapped!

Lovely 7700 there ! I still use mine for coastal fishing. The 7700 is one of the best of the 7000s if not the best; great solid, reliable and just plain nice reels. Size wise, there is a 7850 which is a bit bigger, it is also a LR (convertible); fairly rare. Apologies if I've just set you on another quest

Most of the 7850s I have seen were brown but some were gold (metallic beige !!). Just as a side point generally about the series, I have found the brown paint to be harder wearing.
