I did read centuries ago, an article by a centrepin fan who worked in the film industry supplying props.
He was asked to supply a suitable period reel for a film and if I remember correctly commissioned it from Dave Plowman.
As it happened, the reel wasn't ready by the start of filming, so he had one quickly knocked up by another maker and that was what appeared in the film. The Plowman he kept for himself.
I have absolutely no reason to doubt the veracity of that story.....and yet I doubt it.

The 'Halcyon' model certainly resembles a reel that you once owned Wal, maybe you still have it?
Haha yes that's the one Ted, sadly no longer in my collection.
There are of course lots of reels which resemble the Halcyon model. Kingpins look very much like them too.
Is it just me being a Philistine but the skeleton reel looks like something costing £30 from Budget Tackle Warehouse and the solid one had about as much character as a mortuary slab. I guess the money is in the material and machining but if l spend £1000 on a reel l would like something a bit more special than one of those souless designs.
They don't even look tactile.

I don't know Grayling. There is the somewhat provocatively named centrepin porn where pin fans can sigh over things of great beauty. There's one on this site, made by a member that made me cry.
From an objective standpoint, in terms of pure efficiency, it's often mooted as function over form. Of course there's no reason why a reel can't be both efficient and aesthetically pleasing.
My own opinion is that the Halcyon looks fine as is, but the Elemental looks like it needs a coat of paint, black for me. But I am guessing it's to show the titanium construction.

Oh yes Willsmoger , the lovely reel made by Watermole with the fish strap and wood and smouldering inbuilt gorgeousness. It's the only modern centre-pin that's ever made me tingle. The sort of thing you would sit with on your lap in the evenings and take out of the cupboard just to touch once in a while yet have no fear of using on the bank. Every dink in the wood or scuff adding to its history .
Whereas the Piscario reels ,well maybe just to my eyes ,but bland looking things that probably don't perform £900 worth more than a Marco Cortesi.

I love lurking on this site and others when pins are discussed. On any other forum you inevitably come across the poster who writes "well I've never used a centrepin in my life and I've caught plenty etc"
Fair enough, each to their own again. But rather than write replies I think other posters should just put up a picture of the Watermole. Be still my beating heart.
