Avon royal utility
I have an Avon royal supreme the three screw boss type and find it very robust, well built and free running. Although I like it I always have the feeling that it is more a no nonsense work horse rather than a fine instrument like some Allcock, Hardy or speedia types.. if that makes sense. I liken my reel to a piece of post war utility furniture rather than a piece of more modern habitat. I hope you get my drift as I am not knocking the reels quality or performance in the slightest.

I don’t think you’ll get too many arguments. Still hundreds of them being used around the world which is a testament to the simplicity and robustness.

I like mine for that very reason. Built like tanks
If I've got something too pretty and expensive I'm always scared about getting it dirty or scratching it.
All my tackle is for using and accidents can happen which is why they fit the bill perfectly for me.
And the fact I find them aesthetically pleasing is a bonus
