I am not certain but I think it could be a Sharpe's Vulcan. I have trawled my catalogues but cannot find it, it is a very good quality net though whoever made it.
I believe the original thong across the net opening was leather and yes the end caps screw off. A little gentle heat and some release oil may just get them moving again. Grip them with pliers with some leather wrapped around the caps to prevent damage.
Wal.

Hi Wal
Couldn't find a Vulcan but I did find a Sharpes Aquarex which although a different looking mechanism has the same pointed grip for extending the handle.
So definitely is a Sharpes.
Many thanks.

Well I have tried to unscrew the ends of the drawstring but they won't budge and all i am achieving is scratching the brass end so I am going to leave it.
Shame as it would look much better with a different drawstring.
Thanks again for all your comments and advice.

perhaps consider buying an indelible pen and painting it black.

Mike, you could try applying some heat treatment, or immersing in some boiling water, it sounds like they may have been glued.
Well done to Wal for coming up with the Sharpes ID - I had no idea it would be one - I have to confess that I did not try really in searching for an identification. Good luck.

Hi Peter
Tried hair dryer then hot air paint stripper but to no avail all it did was start to melt the orange cord.
I will try boiling water after that I will admit defeat.

You vould try putting iit in the freezer overnight,if it will fit.
Then blow torch the brass balls to expand them while the arms are still shrunk from freezing

I know it sounds counterintuitive but sometimes trying to tighten a stuck thread a little prior to trying
to loosen works.
to loosen works.
